a growing place for life yet seen

IN PROGRESS, 2021
glazed stoneware vessels concealing an iPhone and speaker with potting soil and wildflower seeds inside a 76.7 x 56.3 x 56.3 in. staked greenhouse with white vinyl text, featuring 4 min. 6 sec. audio of sprouting seeds and 115-250 Hz frequencies (sounds most advantageous to plant growth) played on a loop
IN PROGRESS is about all the growth we cannot see. It is easy to become discouraged in periods of stagnation, when we see no progress, so this piece is an affirmation of faith. The two pots contain planted seeds which grew beneath the soil and sprouted over the course of the exhibit. When entering the house, the viewer is washed over by layered frequencies of sound, accompanied by the subtle cracks of sprouting seeds. The pandemic forced the world into a long, indefinite period of waiting in which day-to-day eagerness and hope was hard to find. IN PROGRESS represents the growth which happened during that time, while we were patiently waiting for the world to turn again.
